What is Sulfur?
Sulfur is an element found in the periodic table which is represented as “S” with an atomic number of 16.
Despite its rotten egg smell, this element has redeeming qualities that work well for the skin.
It has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that can reduce redness and kill acne bacteria.
Comparable to benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, it works by absorbing oil and exfoliating dead skin cells to avoid acne formation.
What is it used for?
Since it works by drying up the surface of the skin to prevent clogging of pores, it can be used for any kind of acne whether it is mild, moderate, or severe.
However, if you are suffering from moderate to severe acne, it might be best to ask your dermatologist what to combine it with for faster and more efficient results.
Is it good for any skin type?
Yes, including sensitive skin types with a history of psoriasis, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, and eczema.
So if acids and retinoids are too strong for you, this is an option you can consider.
But since it does dry up the skin, some can still experience irritation. If that is the case, a short contact application (of 3 to 5 minutes) is recommended 2 to 3 times a week.
