3 Basic Steps for Oily and Acne-Prone Skin
Neither skin type is better than the other. They should all be given the same amount of care and attention.
Step #1: Cleanse in the morning and evening.
You might think that there is no need to wash in the morning since you were just in bed the whole night. But actually, your skin is still secreting oil and is shedding old skin. So if you do not wash in the morning, those oils and dead skin cells will sit in your pores. And you wouldn’t want those inviting bacteria to form pimples.
For oily and acne-prone skin, start with a cleanser that contains salicylic acid. It will help in cleaning up your pores and control your oil production.
Step #2: Tone once to twice daily.
The purpose of toning has changed over time. What was originally for balancing the pH of the skin is now more of a booster to what your skin needs.
Here are the ingredients you should be eyeing for your toner:
✔ AHAs, BHAs, and/or PHAs
✔ Witch Hazel
✔ Niacinamide
✔ Green Tea
✔ Hemp Seed/ Tea Tree/ Grapeseed Oil
Step #3: Treat and moisturize.
If you have some active acne, you might need an antibacterial to kill the bacteria and retinoids or acids to exfoliate your skin gently.
