Do you also contemplate between choosing a deodorant or antiperspirant? If yes, then this article is definitely for you. Keep reading to know how to choose between these two.
A deodorant is considered an alcohol-based cosmetic product by FDA, while an antiperspirant is regarded as a drug, containing Aluminum-based ingredients. But our choice should be slightly dependent on what we are looking for.
Both deodorants and antiperspirants work in different ways. Deodorant works by making our skin slightly acidic so bacteria can’t grow and produce a foul odor. This means it works by eliminating the bad odor. While antiperspirant works by blocking the sweat pores temporarily, it simply makes you sweat less, and ultimately you won’t experience bad body odor.
There’s a myth that because of Aluminum-based compounds, antiperspirants are responsible for interfering with estrogen receptors in breast cells. However, research shows that there is no such connection. So, it is completely safe to use an antiperspirant.
If you are struggling with excessive sweating, you should definitely go for an antiperspirant. If OTC antiperspirants don’t work for you, you can get prescription antiperspirants. But if you only want to combat body odor, try a deodorant. It will leave you smelling fresh while limiting the body odor.
