If Whey Protein Can Cause Acne Breakouts, What Are the Alternatives?

Cow’s milk contains two kinds of protein- 80% casein and 20% whey.

Although both types of protein are rich in branched chain amino acids, athletes or fitness enthusiasts prefer the latter because of the quick energy boost that it can provide.

Despite of being promising for muscle growth and energy generation, a number of consistent whey protein consumers struggle from acne.

Apparently, whey protein can cause testosterone spikes that contribute to oil production and acne formation.

So, what’s a good alternative?

Vegan Protein Powder

If you want to have something very close to your whey protein, you can’t go wrong with vegan protein powder. It is usually made from pea, hemp, beans, quinoa, flax, pumpkin, and chia seeds.

If you are conscious about your diet, you shouldn’t have a hard time looking for one because most are already gluten/soy/dairy- free.

Bone Broth

If you are not vegan, you can try adding bone broth into your diet which is rich in amino acids.

It is also very nutritious, containing calcium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin K, zinc, potassium, etc. Plus, the gelatin attracts water and can help in improving bowel movement.

Egg White

Egg white is 93% protein, and contains the 9 essential amino acids. If you are not allergic to eggs, have one to two eggs daily for breakfast. It is heavy and can provide for the energy you need before working out.
