Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease when white patches appear on the skin. It happens because body cells consider melanocytes as foreign and attack them.
What Are the Causes of Vitiligo?
The cause of vitiligo is still unknown. However, there are different theories why this disease can happen.
- Genetic Predisposition.
- Autoimmunity. Children’s undeveloped immune system starts destroying its own melanocytes and it leads to vitiligo along with other autoimmune diseases.
- Environmental Factors. Factors such as sunburns, stress, exposure to different chemicals can also play a significant role in developing this disorder.
What Are the Early Symptoms of Vitiligo:
- Skin. The skin starts to lose its natural color and becomes lighter. It starts in small patches but it can spread all over the body.
- Hair. Hair can also become lighter, white or grey. It can appear on the head, eyebrows, and even eyelashes.
