Take a Look at These When Choosing Sunscreens

UV lights are everywhere in the environment, and they can penetrate your skin deeply and cause acute and chronic damage. Finding a sunscreen is not an easy task; not all of them can protect you the same; some can only protect you from UVA, others against UVB lights or resist water.

Here you have a list of the characteristics you need to pay attention to when getting sunscreen:

  • SPF: “Sun Protection Factor” is in charge of measuring the protection against UVB radiation. An SPF 30 will protect you 96%, while SPF 50 will do it 98%. You can find lower SPF but never choose lower than 30; the higher, the better.
  • UVA Rays: You must be careful when reading your sunscreen label; the SPF value only is related to the UVB; therefore, check for the specifications about UVA.
  • Broad-spectrum: Includes UVA/UVB protection.
  • Water-Resistance: Most of the time when you get sunburns is while you are performing outdoor activities or sweating or in contact with water in the pool or beach. It is important that your product can tolerate these conditions, and even if it does, you must always remember to reapply every couple of hours.
  • Texture: Choose the one that adapts better to your skin type. You can choose a milky consistency for dry skin, while for oily skin; you can go with a light texture.
