If you are reading this, there is a high chance that you are battling eczema.
So, below are just a few reminders to keep your flare-ups at bay.

What to Look For:
Since skin with eczema is sensitive and parched, keeping your skin moisturized on a daily basis is very important.
Type of Moisturizer
Consider your daily activities and environmental humidity while choosing the right moisturizer.
An ointment is thick and greasy but can promise a well-moisturized skin for long hours. While a lotion is lightweight but evaporates faster than ointments and creams.
A cream, on the other hand, can stick longer than lotions but contains less oil than an ointment.
Creams and ointments are best for elbows, knees, and other areas that require more attention whereas lotions can be applied to the rest of your body for a lighter feel.
Moisturizing Ingredients
Look for both humectants (e.g. hyaluronic acid, urea, ceramides, lactic acid, and glycerin) and emollients (e.g. colloidal oatmeal, shea butter, isopropyl palmitate, lipids, and oils).
The former will attract water to your skin, whereas the latter will restore your skin barrier.
And don’t forget to apply an occlusive like petrolatum overnight to lock in moisture longer and more effectively.
What to Avoid:
- Fragrance/ Perfume
- Dye
- Retinoids
- Ethanol
Some Tips:
- Take short lukewarm baths (maximum of 10 minutes).
- Use gentle cleansers.
- Apply a moisturizer within 3 minutes after getting out of the shower.
