Why Skin Conditions Get Worse in Winter Season?

Though certain skin conditions affect the whole year, mostly they are less manageable in the winter season. Let’s discuss how you can prevent these flare-ups. 

Why Skin Conditions Get Worse in Winter Season?

Skin conditions like dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, get worse in some seasons, particularly in colder times of the year. This is mainly because the drop in temperature draws away moisture from the skin, which often lowers the skin’s natural oil content. Together, they leave skin dehydrated and dry, which is very much prone to irritation and flare-ups. However, if you already have a skin condition, it gets worse.

There are a few tips you can work on to avoid any unwanted flare-up in your already irritated skin. You need to prep your skin as soon as the temperature begins to drop. For example:

  • Make sure your body is not exposed to sudden temperature drops.
  • Cover adequately and keep your most susceptible body parts warm. Let’s say your eczema is worse on your hand; never leave home without gloves.
  • Avoid hot showers. 
  • Moisturize your skin as much as you can. Prefer oil-based hydrating products that can leave your skin moisturized for a more extended period while also replenishing lost skin oils. 
  • Use humidifiers in your closed room.
