If you suddenly observe that your nails are being brittle, growing slowly, and looking unhealthy, it can be due to the winter season because as cold weather affects other parts of the body, it also affects your hair. Let’s discuss this in detail.
Our skin and nails, particularly fingernails, are usually the most exposed parts of our body. That’s why seeing the effects of changing weather on them is pretty common. However, most of us usually focus on our skin and ignore our nails. But nails also need care. In the winter season, your nails start to grow slower than their growth rate in warm seasons. This is because of decreased blood circulation to nails. But that’s not it. Followings are some other nail conditions that are due to cold weather:
Winters can make your nails brittle. In fact, it can cause brittle nails syndrome because, like the rest of the skin, nail plates also become dehydrated.
Raynaud’s phenomenon:
It is another nail condition because cold weather decreases blood circulation, making skin lose its natural color. This often leads to lifting the nail plate from the nail bed.
Nail infections:
If the above two conditions are not considered carefully, they can lead to several bacterial and fungal infections of nails.
