Skincare Basics During Winter

First and foremost, there is no need to go crazy on skincare during the winter months. It will always boil down to what your skin type needs under certain conditions or different environments.

  • Cleanser

Make sure that your facial wash isn’t a regular bar soap that contains irritating ingredients such as fragrances. This can dry up the skin more and worsen itchiness.

Better yet, go for mild and moisturizing foam or cream-based cleansers that are much gentler on the skin and can keep the natural oils that your skin will need for protection.

  •  Toners

If your toner/astringent contains alcohol and strong chemicals like exfoliating acids, you might want to double-check if your skin needs it during winter. Your skin might be more sensitive to these ingredients causing more skin dryness and itchiness.

  • Moisturizers

Now is the best time to go heavy on moisturizers. Meaning, you can add more layers of humectants and occlusives at night. And you can now focus on wearing cream-based ones rather than the gel and lotion types.

  • Lip Balms

To avoid chapped and cracked lips, keep your lip balms within reach and re-apply every so often. You can seal it in with petroleum jelly if your lips dry up too quickly.

  • Sunblock

Because it’s cold out there does not mean that there are no UV rays. UVB might be less but UVA is still out there.

So, continue applying your sunblock every morning even during winter.
