Don’t know which exfoliator to get? Start with Mandelic

At one point in our life, we will all realize that we need an exfoliator. But what should we get when there is a long aisle in the department just for exfoliators?

I would suggest going for one that does the job but is a few steps milder than the rest– Mandelic Acid.

This exfoliator is an alpha hydroxy acid that comes from almonds. Just like its sister acids, it breaks down the bonds that keep the skin cells on the surface together. Once broken, the old skin cells shed off, or what we know as exfoliation, making space for fresher ones.

Because of the ability of mandelic acid to do this, it can help address and prevent acne formation, lighten dark spots, resurface uneven texture, and reduce pore size.

So how is it different from, let’s say, glycolic acid?

The molecular size of mandelic acid is a bit bigger which is why the absorption of the chemical is slower hence making it more tolerable to sensitive skin.

If you find mandelic too gentle for your skin, you can always step up to glycolic acid later on. There’s no need to rush– it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your skin.

By the time you’ve emptied it; your skin is already familiar with an acid, reducing the possibility of getting a reaction once you’re ready to go for a stronger one.
