Aside from energy-based mechanical devices, combination treatment of Botox and fillers is another way to achieve a fresher and younger-looking face.
They are two different procedures that work very differently but complement each other.
What do they do?
Botox is a neurotoxin that is injected into the muscle that you want to treat. It then relaxes the muscle, which eventually reduces wrinkles on the treated area.
The most common areas treated are the forehead, in between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. Sometimes it is also injected into the masseter muscle (or the large muscle on the jaw) to make the face look slimmer.
Fillers, on the other hand, contain hyaluronic acid which attracts water to add volume. It is usually used to smoothen out creases in the face and add volume to the cheeks, chin, nose, and jawline.
Why do they complement each other?
Since Botox relaxes muscles, it can only reduce the appearance of expression lines (e.g. lines from frowning, smiling, raising your brows) whereas fillers can soften static lines or the lines that show even when your face is in a relaxed state. By combining these two, you are able to address both types of lines.
Also, fillers disappear faster when your face moves a lot or is very animated.
But by injecting Botox prior to filler injections to reduce muscle movement, the filler is able to stay longer.
