Cigarettes, prolonged sun exposure, lack of sunscreen, and skincare products are the most known skin enemies. They will cause premature aging and irritation, cause redness, and increase the risk of skin cancer.
Cigarettes can affect almost every single organ of your body, including the largest one, known as “skin.”
Here we will mention how cigarettes can affect your skin:
- It produces thinning of the skin, facial redness, and prominence of the bony contour of the face.
- Smoking is associated with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, known as “crow feet” and also the lines around the lips known as “barcode” or “smokers lines.”
- Delays wound healing, including surgical wounds, as nicotine causes a reduction in blood flow shortly after inhaling smoke. This results in a reduction in the transport of vital oxygen and other nutrients needed for skin regeneration.
- Tobacco inhibits the activity of cells called fibroblasts, which are responsible for the production of collagen. Collagen is not only necessary to prevent aging but also is involved in wound healing.
- Smokers are at increased risk of skin disorders. These include a type of skin cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and other inflammatory conditions such as Psoriasis and Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE).
