Why Do You Need to Protect Your Skin from Blue Light?

We all know that we need to protect your skin from blue light. But did you also know that we need to protect our skin from our gadgets indoors?

We may be staying indoors to avoid sunlight but we are spending more than half of our time in front of our phones and computers that emit something called “blue light”, and it affects our skin as much as UV rays do.

What is blue light?

Also called HEV (High Energy Visible) light, it is found in electronic devices such as our smartphones, computers, and television. It penetrates our skin more deeply than UV rays.

How does it affect your skin?

Apart from blue light affecting our sleep-wake cycle, like UV rays, it contributes to faster signs of aging–wrinkles, dry skin, hyperpigmentation, etc.

What can you do?

Wear sunblock in the morning that can also cover for blue light.

What sunscreens have this coverage?

  • EltaMD UV Replenish Broad-Spectrum SPF 44
  • Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40
  • Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defense SPF 30
  • Eucerin Photoaging Control Sun Fluid

What skincare ingredients can you use to reduce damage to your skin?

What other practices can you follow?

  • You can lessen the brightness of the light in your cell phone.
  • Add a screen protector on your phone.
  • Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants.
