Why Do You Need Sunscreen in winters?

It’s quite normal to wear sunscreen before going out in summers. But some people question why they need to put sunscreen in winters when you can hardly see the sun. Let’s find the answers.

Dermatologists recommend wearing sunscreen with SPF 30  throughout the year. But why do we exactly need sunscreen when there is no sun? It is pretty common in winters to not have sun in several parts of the world. You w11ear sunscreen for UV protection. The Following are some of the reasons that could convince you that not visibly seeing sun does not mean there is no UV:

  • You might be having a very cloudy or foggy day, but this does not mean there is no sun. Sun is still out, its rays might not be that harsh to feel, but they are present with UV rays and cancer risk.
  • It has been reported that the ozone layer is at its thinnest thickness in winters. As you know, ozone absorbs excess UV rays, but it means more rays are reaching the earth in winters.
  • In winters, sunlight might not be harsh, but snow and ice reflect UV rays from the sun, making them more penetrable in our skin.
