What Do You Need to Know About Asteatotic Eczema?

Winter brings an enjoyable time but several skin conditions too. One of the similar skin conditions is asteatotic eczema. Let’s try to know more about it.

You must be aware of the term eczema. Asteatotic eczema is also one of its types, often called xerotic eczema. This skin condition is triggered due to dryness and accompanied by scaly, red, and inflamed skin. When our skin loses its water during the dry season, our epidermis becomes dry skin and cracked. Such cracks are also called fissures. They are usually red in color and are patterned lines. This eczema can develop in any part of the body.

Asteatotic eczema is quite a severe skin condition accompanied by pain and discomfort. So if you are diagnosed with it, you will need prescription treatment that is usually corticosteroids and calcineurin inhibitors. Your physician will also ask you to apply a lipid-rich skin moisturizer

Apart from the treatment prescribed, you can utilize certain tips to reduce the frequency of flare-ups, minimize the discomfort and enhance your healing process. That usually involves:

  • Less frequent baths, particularly hot baths.
  • Apply sealants after applying regular moisturizer.
  • Use humidifiers when humidity levels are reduced, particularly in cold weather.
  • Avoid harsh skin products.
