Thread Lift: What to Know

What is a thread lift?

It is a minimally invasive procedure that makes use of threads with or without barbs to lift certain areas of the face (e.g. cheeks, jawline, under-eye, and brows).

How is it done?

A numbing cream will be applied for 30 to 45 minutes to lessen the pain on the insertion points.

After which, a needle attached to a thread will be inserted underneath the skin. Once properly inserted, the doctor will iron it out to avoid dimpling of the skin. And when everything is in place, the doctor pulls out the needle.

The procedure may last for 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area and number of areas being treated.

How does it work?

Basically, you are trying to promote your natural healing process by inducing an injury. This alone stimulates the production of collagen and elastin that can fill in the gaps in your skin.

After a couple of days, the threads underneath your skin will blend in with your tissues making your skin tighter and will create a lifting effect.

What should you expect?

Since there is some sort of injury involved, you can expect swelling, pain/ discomfort, and bruising.

Do not be afraid if there is some dimpling seen during the first 1-3 weeks. These dimples will smoothen out once your skin and tissues have fully healed.
