Salicylic acid is a trending treatment option for skin nowadays. Continue reading to know why salicylic acid should be added in your skincare routine
Let’s talk about few benefits of salicylic acid for the skin:
- Penetrates deep into pores.
- Loosens dead skin cells.
- Clears clogged pores.
- Reduces sebum secretion.
- Reduces inflammation and redness.
- Helps to break down pimples and comedones.
Salicylic Acid for treatment of acne:
Topical salicylic acid treats acne by reducing swelling and redness and unplugging blocked skin pores to allow pimples to shrink. It treats other skin conditions by softening and peeling dry, scaly, or thickened skin so that it falls off or can be removed easily.
Salicylic Acid as an exfoliating agent:
Salicylic acid is an exfoliating agent that will remove acne causing bacteria and even slough of dark spots along with other dead skin cells.
Steps to apply Salicylic acids to acne prone skin:
Always moisturize your skin first. Moisturizing is the first step that helps to hydrate and repair skin better when undergoing exfoliating treatment with salicylic acid. There are many salicylic acid-containing products such as cleansers, toners, spot treatments, and serums, all of which can be followed by a moisturizer.
If you are using a cream, lotion, solution, or gel apply a thin film of the salicylic acid to the areas of your skin affected by acne for 10 minutes and gently wash the affected area with a mild cleanser, then pat dry, you will see your skin getting better like never before!
You can use salicylic acid in your morning and evening routines but make sure to include an SPF in your daily routine (because salicylic acid being an exfoliant, will increase your skin’s sensitivity to UV).
Stay fresh, be happy!
