Bakuchiol is a chemical compound obtained from the seeds of the bakuchi plant. It has been used in both ayurvedic and Chinese medicine but recently got introduced to the beauty industry. It resembles retinol in its effects on our skin. It is a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial agent.
Bakuchiol has the same gene expression effect as retinol. It works to:
- Boost collagen and elastin production
- Reduce photo damage and premature aging
- Revitalize and nourish the skin
- Reduce acne
- Fight off inflammation
- Give an even tone by reducing hyperpigmentation and roughness of the texture.
The plus point of bakuchiol over retinol is its safety profile. It is very gentle as compared to retinol. It gives an immediate brightening and radiating effect on our skin. So by using bakuchi, you won’t be having typical retinol side effects while having all the positive effects, same as retinol. Still, it is recommended to do a proper patch test before using religiously.
