Microdosing: An Alternative Approach to Skincare Application

With an overabundance of skincare products available over-the-counter, it is easy to pick up whatever catches your eye and overindulge. As a result of this, cases of allergies and burns have risen tremendously.

Because of the need for a safer approach, the skincare industry has adopted microdosing as an alternative method.

What is microdosing?

Microdosing refers to a technique where tiny amounts of medicine (like psychedelics) are prescribed by doctors and researchers to their patients to avoid the usual side effects while still being able to receive the benefits.

Since small doses are introduced to the body, you cannot expect the same level of therapeutic effects right away.

However, despite the downside, some prefer this route because of its promising results in the long run.

How is this applied to skincare?

A regular or daily application of an ingredient in small amounts (one-tenth of the usual) is thought to increase the skin’s tolerance to the ingredient.

With consistent smaller doses, you are able to build up your skin’s ability to absorb strong ingredients without the risk of damaging your skin.

By keeping adverse effects at bay, you are also able to stick to your skincare plan longer.

They say that this is best practiced for ingredients like acids, retinol/retinoids, and other exfoliators.
