Chickenpox: How to Help Your Kid with the Itch

Chickenpox is a very contagious infectious disease that causes itchy rash with small blisters. One of the main problems that parents can face is how to help their child to stop scratching themselves. Because scratching can lead to scars, and it can be difficult to get rid of chickenpox scars in the future. Keep reading this article to learn more about how to control the itch.

Baths

Baths can reduce the itching. Don’t wash your baby with soaps but use only mild soap that is made especially for babies. Don’t rub the skin after, it should dry by itself. 

Cold compress

Cold compresses can be very effective against itching. Simply wet the soft cloth with cold water and apply it to itchy areas. 

Moisturizer

It’s very important to use soothing lotions if your child has chicken pox. Use only organic products that are made especially for kids. Also, you can look for lotions that contain phenol, menthol, or camphor. 

Right clothes

Make  your child wear\ cotton clothes with long sleeves and change their clothes and sheets every day. Also, use a soft laundry detergent.

Fingernails

Wash and trim short your child’s fingernails.

Antihistamines

Your doctor can prescribe you oral antihistamines to relieve the itching. Follow his instructions carefully. 

Avoid hot weather

Sweat triggers the itching. That’s why it’s better not to spend too much time in hot weather. Let your kid play in the shade but not under the direct sunlight.
