Instead of washing your hair to remove dirt, you wash your hair to hydrate your locks.
People who have benefited the most from this practice are those who have frizzy, thick, curly, and dry hair.
What does it do?
Although shampoos can clean your scalp well, they strip off natural oils that are necessary to keep your hair strong.
Co-washing, on the other hand, hydrates and moisturizes your hair. This is why you will notice your hair getting much softer after co-washing.
How do you do it?
On a normal day, you would shampoo your scalp and then apply your conditioner onto your strands.
With co-washing, you replace your shampoo with a conditioner. Meaning, on the days you will co-wash, you will not use shampoo and will go straight to conditioning your hair. Not only do you apply to your strands, but also your scalp.
What’s the downside?
Doing this 7 days a week can create excess grease in your scalp.
So, some experts suggest that you should alternate co-washing with days that you will be washing your hair with shampoo– this applies especially for oily scalp types.
Another option is to use co-wash conditioners that are formulated to cleanse and hydrate at the same time.
