How to Start with a New Skin Care Product

First and foremost, it is best to try one product at a time. Since our skin renews every 25 to 28 days, a minimum interval of 1 month is ideal.

By then, you will be able to tell if your skin is reacting to your new product or if your skin is responding well to it.

Below are a few healthy practices that you can follow every time you introduce a new skincare product.

Patch Test

Always test the product before going all in.

Apply an adequate amount at the back of your ear on the first night and leave it on overnight. If no reactions are noted, do the same thing on your jaw the following night. If there’s still no reaction, apply a spot onto your lower cheek on the third night.

If everything seems good, then you can go and add it to your skincare.

Always start with a low dose.

You need to give your skin enough time to adjust and be familiar with the ingredients. Surprising it with new ingredients might make your skin feel like there’s a foreign attack and can respond with inflammatory defenses.

Frequency

If you are starting with moisturizers, it’s pretty safe to begin to apply them daily.

But if you want to start on skincare that contains anti-aging and exfoliating ingredients, it is best to start twice weekly for 2 weeks until you can build it up daily.
