People at any age can have warts, but it’s more common in children especially of the ages of 12-16. Why do little ones have these warts? In this article we will review main reasons why children usually get warts and we will learn how to prevent it.

Reasons for warts in children:
- Kids are more exposed to the virus that causes warts-HPV.
The virus is usually spread through touching something that was touched before by a person with warts. Children are more likely to run barefoot and touch everything they see; besides they usually have scratches that make it easier for the HPV to enter the skin.
- Kid’s immune system is usually weaker than adults and they may not have yet a defense mechanism against HPV.
How to prevent warts in kids?
- Teach them to always wear shoes or flip flops in public places. Make sure they don’t run around barefoot.
- Teach your kid to wash their hands and feet regularly especially if they contacted someone with warts.
- Make sure they don’t touch or pick their warts because they can spread it to another area.
- In case your child has warts already, the best advice would be to get rid of it quickly to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the body.
