You’ve probably heard it on more than one occasion that applying a primer before your makeup will make it last forever. If there is one thing that is certain and has become a commandment in the beauty industry, it is that the skin, whether it is made up or not, must be cared for and prepared for all the factors it faces.
A primer might seem at first something optional, complementary, or even unnecessary … but nothing could be further from the truth because it will not only prepare your skin to achieve better makeup but also protect it. The primer has been one of the best-kept tricks of professional stylists for years,. However, it has gained prominence in recent years with the increasing popularity of makeup; the first primers appeared many years ago. They were compact creams that refined texture with volume, and they were only applied professionally in film and television.
How to apply a primer?
Always use it before applying foundation and apply a tiny amount on the back of your hand, like a hazelnut, and spread it over my face with the help of a brush. Only use it in the areas where it is necessary, for example, in the central area of the face where the shiny areas appear, in the T-zone, which includes the forehead, nose, and chin and is prone to be oilier than the rest of the face. But, depending on the makeup to be applied, the primer also favors the eye and lip contour, concealing wrinkles and expression lines and fills in by creating a smoother base for applying makeup.
You can also use your primer for eyes and lips, the primer prepares the eyelid so that the shadows adhere and set better, and the latter does the same before applying lipstick. It can come in different textures and formats; we should look for what best suits our needs and adapts to your skin type.
It’s also the perfect ally for when you’re looking for a fresh and light look without makeup, but at the same time, you want your skin to look smoother and healthier; it can be used on its own as an alternative to a foundation to add luminosity and neutralize your skin tone. But it shouldn’t replace your usual cosmetic routine; it’s just a compliment within your makeup habit.
To convince you – as we said, you should have been using it for a long time – here’s how to apply it like a pro.
- Just a few drops
- Gently dab with a brush or a beauty blender, spread it over your face with light touches, don’t apply it like a cream. It will be absorbed quickly and will not form too thick a layer.
- When you’re done, let your face breathe for a couple of minutes before applying foundation to let it take effect.
