You might have tried or at least found several skincare products that claim to support your skincare barrier. But do you understand what this barrier is and why you need to take care of it? Keep reading to get to know answers to these questions.
Our skin comprises several layers, and the uppermost layer is called the stratum corneum. This stratum corneum contains skin cells held together by keratin protein and fats that mainly constitute fatty acids, ceramide, and cholesterol. This whole composition forms our skin barrier because it functions as an outer covering that provides protection. The provided protection is not only for other skin layers; it protects our whole body.
The skin barrier is very important because it protects from harmful microbes or toxic material from penetrating the body. On the other hand, because of the presence of a skin barrier, our skin does not lose its water. If this protection weren’t there, our bodies would be very susceptible to infections and dehydration. Therefore, apart from beautiful skin, it is crucial for our survival. By taking small skincare steps, you can promote its strength and save yourself.
