What Does Caffeine Do for Our Skin

A cup of coffee is a must part of morning rituals for a lot of us. But do you know how it affects our skin? Let’s dig into details to understand what it does for our skin.

What Does Caffeine Do for Our Skin

Caffeine is a potent antioxidant which is a great anti-aging ingredient. But it has different functions when consumed as a beverage and when applied topically on our skin. When caffeine is consumed in a drink like coffee or tea, it is considered a dehydrator like alcohol. It releases stress hormones that stimulate sebaceous glands, in short making you more prone to acne. These drinks often contain additional ingredients like sugar, dairy, preservatives, etc., which have their own effects on our skin, and most of them are not desirable.

The topical application of caffeine is a better approach for reaping its skincare benefits. This is a direct, faster and healthier way. It works great as it:

  • Constricts the blood vessels,
  • Reduces redness and inflammation,
  • Tightens and brightens the skin
  • Reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Caffeine and different tea extracts are a powerful addition to our skincare. You can enjoy them in face masks, cleansers, or serums. People with hypertension, irregular heartbeat or bad migraine should be cautious while getting treated with caffeine.
