Since we want to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from Covid, wearing a mask is now part of our daily attire. 

Simple Tips on How to Avoid Mask AcneHowever, wearing a mask for hours traps in the existing oil, dead skin, and dirt which eventually result in acne formation.

Additional factors include the number of times the mask has been reused, washing technique, and material of the mask; wherein, cloth masks remain to be the friendliest for the skin. 

To keep acne at bay:

  1. Wash your face at least twice a day and refrain from wearing make-up, for it can add to the dirt and germs.

  2. If you have uncontrollable acne, ask your dermatologist what topical antibiotics you can apply in the morning before putting your mask on. This can prevent bacteria from brewing during the day. 
  3. Exfoliate with mild acids and retinoids at night. But if you’re a first-time user, best to avoid adding a new member to your routine unless prescribed by your dermatologist.
  4. Apply a moisturizer at night that best suits your skin type to protect and strengthen your skin barrier.
  5. If possible remove your mask every 4 hours, allowing your skin to breathe.
