Saggy skin on eyelids and neck are some of the main reasons that prompt us to see a plastic surgeon. But I have a good news for you. We now have a new treatment that will help us get rid those saggy skin without surgery and postpone the visit to plastic surgeons for a couple of years. The plasma pen is the secret to this, and I want to explain how it works.
What is Plasma pen and how does it work?
Talking about the natural states of matter, we have solids, liquids, gases, and plasma. Most people do not know about Plasma. This one is an ionized gas, between liquid and gas state. This plasma is produced when the metal tip of the device that we use, called plasma pen is brought closer to the skin. The device does not touch the skin but still can cause a micro-injury. This procedure is called Fibroblasting, works to stimulate the fibroblast which produces collagen and elastin that will lead to skin tightening and regeneration.
This treatment has become famous and can even substitute surgery in some cases, especially for the lower cost, less downtime, less invasive, and minimal side effects.
What areas can be treated by Plasma pen?
- Crow’s feet
- Acne scars
- Forehead lines
- Smile lines
- Marionette lines
- Neck (turkey neck)
- Smoker lines around the lips
- Upper and lower eyelids
- Stretch marks
- Body (abdomen, arms, knees, breast, hands)
What is the procedure?
Plasma pen is a short procedure, and can only take between 15-60 minutes depending on the area. Facial cleansing is the first step followed by the topical numbing cream. Then the plasma pen is used to treat the desired area. It will create micro-injuries that look like little dots on the skin. Some people apply a cooling gel to minimize uncomfortable feeling.
When will I see the results?
You will see the results after a couple of days. After the treatment there are remaining little dots (scabs) but after a few days, these will disappear leaving your skin tight and with fewer imperfections. You will get progressive results, and can take up to 12 weeks to have the full look. However, some conditions will require more than one session.

Can everybody have the treatment?
There are few contraindications for this treatment.
- open wounds
- pregnancy
- breastfeeding
- active cancer in the area
- dark skin (Fitzpatrick phototype IV, V, VI)
Does Plasma pen have any side effects?
Yes, like every aesthetic treatment, it also have side effects, but that does not necessarily mean you can have them. Some people experience redness, swelling, and pigmentation.
Do not let them fool you
Only few devices are FDA approved for the fibroblasting treatment, you can find a lot of devices on websites being offered as plasma pen but they don’t have the true plasma technology, those are only used to remove moles, they are not the real thing.
Can I do it myself?
This treatment can only be performed by a professional, because the treatment itself is a controlled-damage to the skin and it must be carefully done, make sure the person that you find has the right qualifications.
