How to Recognize Rosacea and What to Do if You Have It

If you think you have rosacea, it is safer for you to see your dermatologist before exploring skincare products that might contribute to a flare.

What does it look like?

If you have noticed that your skin gets red when it is triggered by alcohol, hot food, or temperature, you might have it.

Also, if you look closely, you might be able to notice some small blood vessels.

If you do have it, what does it mean?

It means that your skin is very sensitive and can react very quickly to the environment, food that you eat, and chemicals you apply to your face.

What are the usual triggers?

  • Sunlight
  • Hot & spicy food
  • Hot & cold environment
  • Stress
  • Medicines
  • Skincare that is too strong your skin
  • Hair products
  • Exercise

What to do?

Well, aside from visiting your dermatologist, you need to identify what your triggers are so that you could avoid them.

You can download a template of Rosacea Diary from http://www.rosacea.org/patients/materials/rosacea-diary-booklet which you will be filling out every day for 2 weeks to pinpoint your “triggers”.

In the meantime, while waiting to see your doctor, stay away first from harsh skincare like acids.

Instead, seek calming and soothing ingredients like green tea, dextran sulfate, bisabolol, and licorice and skin-repairing ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, glycine, and allantoin.
