How Does Makeup Setting Spray Work?

People who don’t use a makeup setting spray wonder how a mist can help your makeup stay longer. Here is a guide for you to understand how it works and why you should not miss it.

Setting sprays are famous for improving the longevity of your makeup looks by preventing smudging and fading of makeup.

There are two types of setting sprays:

  1. Spray that helps lessen the powdery look of makeup and make it look more blended.
  2. Spray that provides a shield against sweat, rubbing, and powdery look. It is also called fixing spray.

They contain water or alcohol as a main ingredient, often coupled with film-forming polymers. When the setting spray is sprayed over your face, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind polymer molecules that merge to form a film. This film acts as a protective barrier preventing makeup from smudging. Often this film contains waterproof properties that help makeup to withstand sweating.

Another benefit is that the solvent in the setting spray dissolves your makeup, and when it evaporates, it makes it look more blended. However, make sure you don’t spray too much that it makes your makeup runny. After all, the setting spray’s primary role is to keep your makeup intact throughout the day with minimum touchups.
