One of the most common questions during dermatology consultation is: How many times do I need to wash my hair in a week? Most people believe that daily washing will rotten the hair follicle, make your scalp oilier, or lose all your hair. However, all of these are not real, and we will explain why:
Girls with long hair take more time to wash and dry their hair, especially during winter; hence daily washing is not an option in most cases. For men, short hair makes everything more comfortable during the shower, so they tend to wash it daily. Men do it more often than girls. People who don’t suffer from oily hair can wash it twice a week, which is considered enough.
Washing your hair once a week
These are the cases of people that usually go to the salon to have a wash and blow-dry. In some cases, they suffer from scalp pathologies and need to be treated with topical products; however, these products need to be applied daily or at least a couple of times per week. But they will make your hair greasy, so these people choose to skip it to keep their hair done, this represents one of the biggest challenges for the physician.
Haircare myths? Washing your hair every day is bad
Washing your hair every day will not result to hair fall, but most people believe this because during shower, we notice hair loss. Every day, we lose between 100-150 hairs, and this is entirely normal, regardless of whether the hair is washed or not. Some conditions, like psoriasis, eczema, or dandruff, will benefit more from daily washing.
Whether you chose to wash it daily or once a week will depend on your skin type, oiliness of your scalp, exposure to external factors, and any other skin condition. Choose and change your washing pattern according to your results, and remember, if something doesn’t feel right, go for a consultation with a dermatologist.
