Our skin can reflect when our organs are not working properly; in PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), insulin resistance and excess testosterone produce acne, hair loss, pigmentation, and excessive facial hair growth.
PCOS is the most common infertility cause in women, and it happens when numerous cysts are found in the ovaries stopping the ovulation process that leads to pregnancy. It is a common condition, but not every woman will show the same symptoms.
What are the signs of PCOS?
- If your acne gets worse during your period, you find them mostly in the lower face, and they look deeper and bigger than regular acne then it is probably related to PCOS.
- Acanthosis Nigricans: It is a change of color in areas like the neck and underarms, turning darker. It is a sign of insulin resistance.
- Unusual and excessive Hair growth in places like chin, abdomen, neck, back, and chest.
- Hair loss
How can you treat PCOS?
You must take care of your skin and hair and your metabolic and hormonal imbalance; therefore, you must go for a consultation with a physician. Birth control pills, diabetes medication like metformin, diet, laser hair removal treatment, and exercise should also be part of your treatment.
