Acne is a widespread condition, sometimes related to age, nutrition, hormones, and even allergic reactions. Here we will let you know some facts about teenage acne:

  • The age limit to consider that acne is adolescent is up to 24 years old. After this age, it is considered hormonal acne. 
  • Between 16 and 18 years is considered the worst stage of acne.
  • It is very common that this type of acne also appears on the back. 
  • It has a hereditary component, so it is ideal for preventing severe acne and scarring by visiting a dermatologist as soon as the lesions appear.

How to treat teenage acne?

  • Washing the face 1-2 times a day is the main thing to do. If by doing this consistently, there are acne breakouts, you have to go to the dermatologist.
  • Apply moisturizer every day.
  • Use sunscreen in the mornings to prevent post-acne scarring and blemishes.
  • Wash makeup applicators and sponges because they build up bacteria, and that makes acne much worse.
  • Some treatments used are retinoic acid, benzoyl peroxide, adapalene, and clindamycin. However, they should be indicated by the dermatologist because it varies in each case.
  • An essential thing in adolescents is a good cleanser that controls the amount of oil in the skin.

What to avoid?

  • Sunbathing in excess makes acne scars worse and can cause skin cancer. 
  • Over exfoliating, the skin can make acne worse.
  • Smoking makes skin quality much, much worse.
  • Touching your face and picking at acne lesions can lead to worse infections and scarring.
