What to do if you suffer from eczema?

The most common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis, which is known as a chronic skin condition that causes erythema, intense itchiness, flaky skin, localized rashes, and makes you feel uncomfortable on occasions.

It is most common in children and will improve over time but still can be seen in adults.

What can trigger eczema?

  • Sweat: in some cases, people can be allergic to their own sweat triggering your lesions. To avoid this, change clothes often after exercise to prevent it. 
  • Extreme temperature: While hot weather increase sweating, cold temperatures are usually accompanied by strong winds hence can cause dry skin. Both of these conditions increase the chances of eczema.
  • Stress: Eczema and other skin conditions can be triggered by stress or anxiety.
  • Food: Avoid seafood, peanuts, soy, eggs, and any other food which has shown the previous allergy over the years.
  • Dry skin: Lack of moisture in the skin means that irritation is just one step away. By keeping the skin hydrated, you decrease the chances of eczema.
  • Strong products: Before purchasing any products, investigate if they are suitable for your skin type and do a patch test before applying them on wide areas. Avoid strong detergents and fragrances for your clothes and skin. 
  • Scratching: can cause micro lesions and irritation on your skin.
  • Use of tight clothes: will cause friction and eventually will lead to eczema in the area. Instead, wear loose clothes made of cotton. 

How should I take care of your skin if you suffer from eczema?

First of all, avoid using many skincare products; the more you use them, the more chances you will get irritation from one of them; instead, keep it simple, and don’t forget to apply them gently. 

An emollient moisturizer is also an essential product on your routine; choose a rich one that can maintain your skin protected and check with your physician if you can add corticosteroids as part of your treatment.
