Maybe you have already heard about the new trend called “Slugging”, but the question is, how much do you know about it? Nowadays, we have many new treatments that we want to try, most of them follow the K-beauty example. When you hear the word “slug,” most people think about the animal, but this doesn’t have anything to do with those creatures you can find in your garden.
Vaseline is the ingredient used in this technique, not something new though, as it has been used since 1872 as a beauty product. Most of the time, it is used to treat dry skin, irritation, and even wounds. Also, it helps to create a protective barrier and keeps moisture in our skin.
What precisely is “Slugging”?
It is the process where you apply Vaseline on top of the products that you use in your skincare routine. This will block the humidity and avoid them to evaporate, which is really helpful for dryness. You can do it during the day, but leaving it overnight can enhance the effect of the products used. The outcome is a softer and more hydrated skin.
How to do it correctly?
To do it correctly, you need to clean your skin with your regular product, exfoliate, and then apply your serum and moisturizer. When you finish using all your daily products, apply a good amount of vaseline on top. To have better results, do it overnight and repeat once a week.
What are the benefits of Slugging?
- Helps to prevent water loss because it maintains hydration in the skin
- Soothes chapped lips
- Gives a better texture to dry hands
- Makes skin look plump
- Improves eczema
Can everybody use this method?
No, if you suffer from acne or oily skin, it is better not to try it. Vaseline cannot penetrate the pores because of the size, but if you don’t exfoliate correctly beforehand, it can trap dead skin and oils and clog your pores.
