What Is Cellulite and Why You Get It?

Are you concerned about those uneven, dimply skin areas and wonder why it is more noticeable in some people than others? It is called cellulite. Let’s find out why one gets it.

What Is Cellulite and Why You Get It?

Cellulite is uneven, lumpy and dimpled skin. One usually gets it on the hips, thighs, buttock and abdomen area. It is more prevalent in women than men because of differences in fat, muscles and connective tissue distribution.

Cellulite occurs because of fat accumulation. These overlying areas of fats push skin upward while bands of connective tissues pull them down to the deeper tissues. This creates an uneven and bumpy surface. Cellulite isn’t harmful, so generally, it doesn’t need any treatment. But one can feel annoyed because of cosmetic reasons.

What Is Cellulite and Why You Get It?

The primary reason behind cellulite is fat buildup underneath the skin. But there can be many causes that can affect your fat composition. It can be your imbalanced hormones, poor diet, unhealthy lifestyle, inactivity, pregnancy or accumulated toxins in the body. The amount of cellulite and its noticeability depends upon your genes, body fat percentage and age. It also depends upon your skin thickness. Reducing your body weight can make one get rid of it or at least make it less noticeable.
