What Is Actinic Keratosis?

Actinic keratosis is a rough patch on your skin that might look bumpy or dried. Don’t confuse it with any dryness condition. It is far more serious than that. Let’s find out important information about it.

What Is Actinic Keratosis?

Actinic keratosis is a type of skin condition that results in small scaly bumps on your skin. It might not be visible to the eye because of the light flesh’s light color, but on touching it, it feels like a rough and crusty area. Although it is a common skin condition, it needs attention. Actinic keratosis is a precancerous condition that can develop into squamous cell carcinoma. The primary cause behind actinic keratosis is sun exposure and UV damage.

What Is Actinic Keratosis?

Actinic keratosis is visible evidence of the seriousness of sun damage. Although not every actinic keratosis converts into cancer, almost all such cancers start off with actinic keratosis. If detected earlier, actinic keratosis is completely treatable, so approach your dermatologist whenever you observe any similar skin condition. However, if you had actinic keratosis in part or not, you still need to opt for preventive options, one of which is wearing sunscreen. People with pale skin, older age, or compromised immune systems are at higher risk. In such cases, you need to reduce your sun exposure and avoid tanning beds.
