When it comes to hair, there are some things we cannot completely change. Examples are hair shape and color because these are genetically predisposed. And in order to modify them, we need to go through a lot of treatments that generally involve strong chemicals and extreme heat. These processes tend to damage our hair especially if we don’t take precautions. But don’t worry, because even if we’re at home, there are things that we can do to maintain a healthy hair.
Tips for a healthy hair
- Avoid the daily use of blow drier and hair straightener
- Aggressive chemical treatments should be used only when needed
- Wash your hair as needed. If you have an oily scalp, you don’t have to worry if you need to wash it daily. It’s okay, but just make sure to wash it once a day only
- If you have a curly hair, comb it when still wet. On the other hand, if straight hair, wait until it dries a little bit before combing
- Avoid doing hairstyles where you must pull your hair tight (ponytail). This can pull your hair from the forehead and may lead to hair loss in that area
- Use a wide-tooth comb
- If you are under the sun often, add to your routine those hair products with zinc oxide as this ingredient will protect you against UV light
- Keep a healthy diet and take multivitamins
- Visit a doctor if you are losing more hair than usual, but remember we can normally lose up to 100 hair strand daily
- Choose a shampoo with fewer chemicals. Try the sulfate-free products
- Apply conditioner just on the tip of your hair, applying daily on your scalp can make your scalp oily
- Do haircuts regularly, this will help you to get rid of the split ends
- Avoid hot showers, remember that warm water remove all the oil from your scalp making it dry and flaky
- Use shampoo and conditioner that are recommended for your hair type
