What is the difference between Micellar water and Thermal water? Yes I know, not necessarily earth shattering, time sensitive information – but I wanted – dare I say it: needed to know! So here we go!

Micellar water
The main function is to use it as a mild cleanser. Yes, it is not the regular cleanser. It is a product that has been enriched with micelles (a structure able to attract oil molecules and water). This way it will help us to clean and remove substances that can harm the skin like makeup, sweat, sebum, and pollution. Works as a magnet that attracts and gently removes dirt and sebum from the skin.
Benefits of Micellar water
- Helps to tone and is easy to apply
- There are different Micellar water that you can use for different skin type (oily, sensitive, dry).
- Some products come with vitamins
- You can use it as a makeup remover, even waterproof. Just make sure it is written on the label, because not all micellar waters are capable of removing this kind of makeup.
Downside
- Doesn’t work as a strong cleanser all by itself. You need to apply a strong cleanser after. Because micellar water will just remove part of the oil and dirt.

Thermal Water
This is not just a regular water. Thermal water has a lot of known benefits. Was used by Ancient Egyptians because it is a type of water that is extracted from springs at elevated temperatures. It is also rich in a lot of natural minerals like manganese, selenium, magnesium, calcium and zinc.
Benefits of Thermal water
- Helps to fix makeup for a long lasting effect.
- Can be used in sensitive skin
- Hydrating, anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidants
- Enhance water retention on the skin.
- Doesn’t require cleanser after application
Downside
- When used in excess can cause skin dehydration.
