Things to Know Before Taking Zinc for Acne

Today at the time of COVID, more and more people embrace the advantages of zinc to strengthen the immune system.

Luckily, it also has a remarkable benefit in calming down inflammatory acne.

One study showed a significant reduction in inflammatory acne and decreased Propionibacterium acnes resistance from Erythromycin by taking zinc gluconate once daily for two months. At the same time, another study showed substantial results from a twice-daily dose.

However, if you only have whiteheads, blackheads, and occasional papules episodes, topical application of zinc twice daily may suffice. Oral zinc supplementation becomes an option only if you suffer from pimples and blemishes more frequently.

If you wish to start on zinc supplementation, remember not to go overboard. The recommended upper limit of zinc in teens and adults is 34 and 40mg. Taking excessive amounts of zinc can lead to nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and headaches.

Don’t forget to consult your primary physician if you are taking maintenance medications to avoid drug interactions. If zinc supplementation is not recommended, you can increase zinc in your diet instead. The food sources are beans, dairy, fortified cereals, nuts, oysters, red meat, whole grains, and poultry. This will help you a lot.
