Should you do lasers for your acne?

First, understand how acne develops. It starts when oil from your sebaceous glands clogs your pores along with dead skin cells that have not been shed off.

Once these accumulate, the environment of the skin becomes more susceptible to bacteria specifically, Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). And as part of our normal physiology, the body responds to the bacteria’s presence leading to inflammation or swelling.

So how does a laser treatment help?

Lasers help in three ways:

1.Kill bacteria:

By delivering light and heat energy into the skin, it is able to kill the bacteria hiding underneath. By doing so, acne lesions eventually dry up and resolve.

2.Lessen Oil Secretion:

There are lasers that are good for tightening pores and reducing oil secretion. If you are able to make your pores smaller and control your oil secretion, you can prevent your pores from getting clogged too often. This in turn, can also prevent P. acnes from lingering.

3.Increased cell turnover:

If you are able to shed off the dead skin cells and encourage its replacement with new ones regularly, you can lessen the dirt in your pores. Hence, lessen acne occurrence.
