You might have seen the name Ferulic acid or hydroxycinnamic acid in many anti aging skincare products. If not, you might start adding it to your daily regime so keep reading to know about the benefits of ferulic acid and how to use it.
Hydroxycinnamic acid, aka ferulic acid, is a natural, plant-based antioxidant, usually obtained from bran, rice, oats, peanuts, citrus, apple seeds, etc., but it can also be synthesized in the lab. It is considered to be as effective as vitamins A, C & E.

Generally, it doesn’t repair the damage already done but shields from future problems. Its benefits are due to its antioxidant properties. So it neutralizes free radicals and gives anti aging benefits like removing age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. It also prevents skin sagging, and inflammation and helps reduce uneven skin tone.
It is available in supplements, but they are not found effective for skincare benefits. It is preferred in serums, peels, or creams. It is safe to use daily; apply it on clean skin before applying moisturizer and sunscreen.
It usually comes in combination with other skincare ingredients like vitamin C or hyaluronic acid.
It is generally safe for all skin types but can cause an allergic reaction in those allergic to its natural source. Do not combine it with other exfoliating acids like glycolic acid, lactic acid, etc. always consult your pharmacist and do a patch test before applying it to your face.
