Is Beeswax Safe to Use in Skincare Products?

Beeswax has an ancient history of its use in skin and beauty products. Even now it is a popular ingredient of sunscreens, moisturizers, balms and cosmetic products. But is this safe for our skin? Let’s find out.  

Is Beeswax Safe to Use in Skincare Products?

Beeswax is made by honey bees to produce their honeycomb. So it is a natural product with lots of healthy fats and vitamins. Traditionally, it has been used in many skin products, but recently it is very commonly found in modern cosmetic products too. Some people consider it unsafe for our skin because of its rich fat content. But beeswax is entirely safe to be applied on the skin. In fact, it has several incredible skin benefits such as:

Emollient:

Beeswax is a great hydrating agent. It acts as an emollient. It is great for dry skin types. It also helps ease the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis.

Protective barrier:

When products bearing beeswax are applied over the skin, it acts as a protective barrier and prevents external damages. It also protects from damaging free radicals. It sits on the skin surface and locks in the skin’s moisture. 

Is Beeswax Safe to Use in Skincare Products?   Won’t clog pores:

Although it is best for the dry skin type, it is safe for oily skin too as it is observed to be non-comedogenic.

Anti-inflammatory:

Beeswax shares anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties with honey. So it helps keep the skin clean and smooth without any breakouts and infection.

Chapped lips:

Beeswax is excellent for chapped lips to retain moisture and hydration. That’s why it is a very commonly found ingredient in lip balms.
