There are some topical formulations such as glycolic acid, kojic acid, and hydroquinone which are considered first line option for the treatment of hyperpigmentation; furthermore, oral formulations such as cysteamine hydrochloride, melatonin, tranexamic acid are also included. In second line therapy chemical peel and laser therapy is considered but it must be strictly under the supervision of expert professionals. But these therapies have some limitations due to adverse effects such as erythema, drying of skin, peeling of skin, and it requires longer time to wait for the results.

Additionally, hyperpigmentation can be maintained and prevented from sunscreens for the protection from sun or ultraviolet radiations.
