How to Stop Skin Peeling from Sunburn?

You forgot to apply the sunscreen, which resulted in sunburn, and then it started to peel. This isn’t something strange as it is pretty common. But it is quite a painful and irritating experience. So, let’s discuss how to deal with it.  

How to Stop Skin Peeling from Sunburn?

There are two types of UV radiation in the sunlight that damage our skin. This damage can be of the lower to a higher degree. When your skin starts peeling, this means it is bearing a higher degree of damage. And as a damage control mechanism, the body is shedding its upper layer. It can take 3-7 days for the skin to start peeling, which can last up to 2 weeks. Following are some of the tips to heal your skin as soon as possible:

How to Stop Skin Peeling from Sunburn?

  • First of all, do not pick or pull the peeling skin. It can further damage the skin resulting in infection.
  • Treat the sunburn as soon you notice. Once the skin is damaged, you can’t stop peeling, so focus on nourishing the underneath the skin.
  • Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water. This will reduce the itchiness and irritation.  
  • Apply moisturizer. You can go for pure aloe vera gel or 1% hydrocortisone. 
  • If peeling is painful, take OTC pain relievers. E.g., ibuprofen.
  • Wear soft and comfy fabrics so they won’t rub over your skin.
