Benzoyl peroxide is a chemical that helps to treat acne by oxidizing activity on the skin. It means it helps to kill bacterial or microorganism by releasing oxygen on the skin. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by speeding up pores opening to lower the inflammation.

Benzoyl peroxide act as an antibiotic as well as an exfoliator. It removes the debris from the skin and removes blackheads from the skin by unclogging the pores.

Due to its antibiotic property, benzoyl peroxide can be used in place of antibiotics to treat acne. As we know, long-term use of antibiotics can increase the risk of anti-microbial resistance. So, it can be used alone or in combination with antibiotics to fight acne.
