Let’s face it, all of us have been sun burnt at least once in our lifetime. Heck, some people go out looking for a burn that will “fade to a tan”. But the truth behind the sun burn is that it is terrible for your skin, causing wrinkles, dark spots, skin cancer, and more! So, what does one do when their skin is feeling the burn? Here are some of my favorite tips for post-sun skincare that will help to soothe your skin.
Soothing – Aloe has been a long-time post-sun recommendation, and with good reason. Not only does it feel soothing, it actually is. This can help calm the burn to facilitate skin healing. Some of my absolute favorite aloe products include: Epicuren’s Aloe Vera Calming Gel, Eminence Organics’ Aloe Mint Hydrating Cream Gel, and Vivant Skin Care’s Totaloe Calming & Hydrating Gel.
Moisturize Inside & Out – dry skin is more prone to sun damage, which is why it is important to moisturize your skin, and hydrate your body. There are so many amazing moisturizing products that are infused with SPF, so the excuses for ditching your sunscreen need to stop! Brightening Products – While sun damage can never be reversed, dark spots can. I love recommending brightening products for two reasons: (1) it helps to reduce dark spots, which often a huge indicator of age, and (2) it forces people to incorporate sunscreen into their daily practice. Yes, when using skin brighteners you absolutely must wear sun protection as your skin will be more photosensitive. So it is a win/win. You get your gorgeous, even-toned skin while gaining incentive to protect your skin. Read more
