What is a fraxel laser?
Fraxel lasers are light-based lasers that are used in skin care procedures. The treatment is performed by making little injuries to the skin (called imprints).

Apart from post-surgical scars, a large percentage of fraxel laser treatments involve reducing unwanted pigmentation such as sun spots, brown spots, aging spots, or other forms of hyperpigmentation.
It can also be used to minimize wrinkles, treat acne scarring and reduce the visibility of pore sizes. The most commonly treated area is the face, followed by the neck, décolletage, and hands.
How does fraxel laser work?
The way fraxel treatments work is in causing controlled damage to skin cells. These cells will, then, start to regenerate. So the older skin is pushed out and replaced with new skin.
The laser treatment also initiates and accelerates the production of collagen. As a result, the skin looks smoother and healthier.
Sometimes, the after-treatment period may be accompanied by short-lived inflammation of the skin (redness, warm and swollen skin). During this time it is important to avoid active or harsh skincare products.
Sun exposure or touching of the region should be minimized. Finally, the client/patient is advised to use fresh linens or washers, and a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should delay or avoid this type of treatment.
Usually, the number of treatments is between 3 and 5 and the time between treatments is 3-8 weeks. The patient may experience discomfort or pain during the session, but usually, there is cold air being pumped onto the skin, to cool it and ease the irritation.
Before undergoing any form of laser treatment it is advised to consult with an adequate health care professional.
