Do You Know What Is Crepey Skin?

Have you ever noticed why older people have skin so thin and fragile that it seems like crepe paper? It can be a skin condition called crepey skin. Let’s try to know more about it.

Crepey skin is a skin condition that makes your skin look very thin and wrinkly, like crepe paper. You might also observe sagging or loose skin. It usually impacts larger areas, but it tends to be more obvious in areas like under the eyes or inner arms because the skin around these areas is very fragile and thin.

There are multiple causes of crepey skin like aging, sun damage, excessive weight loss, lack of moisture, etc. Pollution, stress, and smoking also contribute to it. The main reason behind it is collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are two protein fibers that have the role of keeping our skin tight and firm. But with aging and exposure to the sun, pollution, smoking, and stress results in lesser production of new fibers and weakening of existing fibers. This results in loosened crepey skin.

While one cannot prevent aging, it is incredibly important to address all other factors to prevent this skin condition. You must protect your skin from the sun and pollution. To be wearing good moisture regularly also benefits the skin.
